Hello everybody, I would like to tell you about a show I went to last August in Zonhoven Belgium.
My journey starts on the Friday morning with a short run down to Dover to get the ferry across to Dunquerke, I had to do this trip by myself this time as my wing man Mark Bennett had work commitments. |
I made my way with a couple of silly navigational mistakes, [got lost as soon as I got off the ferry and out the docks]. Once I had turned the map the right way up I was on my way once more.[you wouldn’t think that I’m a lorry driver would you] it was a faultless trip after that and arrived at 11am to find that I was the first person there so I pitched up my tent as others started to arrive.
I was greeted with a warm welcome by Lieve and Marcell who organise the show.
I made my way to the local supermarket and stocked up on food and drink. Back to camp and a couple of hours sleep as it is a busy day and it can catch up with you.
Friday night all quiet on the western front so had a bite to eat and chatted to the other campers. Their English is excellent so communication is no problem. Sat morning I wash and prepare my car, the weather was very sunny and clear blue skies a proper summers day.
Many types of Fords all old timers started turning up in beautiful and restored condition plenty of spares old and new, Europe is the place to go and find that hard to find part, they seem to be abundant out there.
Saturday and Sunday are the show days it was a very good turn as it was the Capri’s 40th anniversary year.
A very good turn out by the Capri owners out there. Saturday evening there is a buffet provided at a small price just to cover food cost’s if you want it. I recommend that one it gives an insight into what sort of food the Belgium’s eat, yum yum . . . .

Sunday morning Mr. Bennett turns up in his Mk 1 Estate looking rather shattered after his long trip from Derbyshire, so he freshens up with a cup of tea [typically English . . .] Sunday is also a good day with a self judging form that you walk round and mark your favourite 1st 2nd 3rd cars you like. Tell you something its a hard job to do, many nice motors to decide on. Its all in a bit of fun not too serious.
Once again the weather was excellent and I would say around 4pm the prize giving proceeded, and I was very surprised to receive an award for 3rd place. 2nd place was a 1960's Taunus and 1st place a Transit pickup and Mark won the longest distance travelled.
They couldn’t believe that he would come all that way for one day. Nice one Marko.
The show ended shortly after the award ceremony and we celebrated our win with bottle of Belgium’s finest beer and a burnt sausage or two from the blast furnace [the BBQ].
Monday morning was decamp and quick walk round checking for any litter that might have been missed, very clean out in Europe.
Just one small electrical disaster with me this time, my mp3 speakers packed up, so Mark filmed the funeral with aid of 3lb hammer I keep in my inside pocket for such events that I seem to have. I thought I’d got away with it this time but nope.
We said our goodbyes and made our way to Addinquerke to top up on our duty frees then onto Dunquerke for the ferry home. Mark and I parted company at Dover and made for home. Its a good weekend and we strongly recommend it, its not hard to do, "go on give it a go, you’ll enjoy it".
Regards,
Bryan Stone.
