Guild History

And what we can offer you . . .
The Ford Mk1 & Mk2 Granada Drivers Guild was formed in 1993 to cater for all Ford Consul's and Granada's Mk1  and Mk2 1972 - 1985, read about them here. The Guild is run by a small, unpaid Committee on behalf of the members. We are a friendly group of people who are not only keen to promote the use of our cars but also set great store in the social side of the Guild.

To this end we have many regional groups with regular local area meetings, as well as all over the United Kingdom, we also have members Worldwide , predominantly in Germany and Norway but as far away as Australia.

Members cars have been featured in many publications including "Practical Classics", "Ford Heritage", "Ford Report" (Germany) , "Complete Car" and the "Daily Telegraph". Various Pop bands have used members cars in their video's. Cars have also appeared on BBC2's award winning drama "Our Friends in the North", "Top Gear" and "Spitting Image".

Guild members receive a quarterly magazine "News & Views" packed with show reports, articles, nostalgia, letters, cars and spares for sale and photos of members cars. Some of the articles are in both English and German. In addition, details of forthcoming shows in Britain and Europe where the Guild will be present are published . All of the shows are great fun and each has a different and unique atmosphere. Two yearly highlights however, are the Guild International Weekend/AGM at Billing Aquadrome, Northampton in July and the German branch show at the Loreley near Koblenz in May. Members are most welcome to attend any of the shows listed. Some of the shows, however, require pre-booking owing to space restrictions, so it is always recommended that you contact the appropriate Regional Representatives first. At some shows, four legged friends are also welcome. Again, it is advisable to check in advance with the Regional Representative. Cars don't have to be in first class condition but we would request that they are clean and tidy!

News & Views lists all Committee Members and Regional Co-ordinators as well as Technical Advisors. Members are always welcome to ring any of the people listed in the magazine but are requested to respect the fact that Guild officials are all unpaid volunteers with normal jobs and lifestyles so all phone calls should be restricted to sensible times - Thanks!

One of the great advantages of being a Guild member is access to new and secondhand spares including many that are virtually impossible to get through Ford dealers. Sometimes the Guild is lucky enough to purchase items in bulk that can then be offered to members at greatly reduced prices. Equally useful is the amount of money saving information and technical tips that one picks up by talking to fellow members. The Guild also offers a free valuation service for members wishing to obtain agreed value classic car insurance policies. The vast majority of insurance companies will only offer classic car insurance to members of bona fide car clubs. The Guild is on the accepted list of car clubs.

GRANADA Rescue is a unique emergency breakdown service run by members for members. If you have broken down, you can ring one of the volunteers who should be able to come out and offer assistance. The service is free; all you have to pay for is any parts used and the volunteers petrol.

If you wish to preserve your beloved CONSUL or GRANADA for future generations to behold and admire and at the same time meet many other "GRANNIES" like yours then :-
